Recycling batteries allows us to reuse our natural resources more efficiently, decrease harmful environmental effects and reduce the need for mining and refining virgin materials.
We have pioneered mechanical alkaline battery recycling in the U.S. in two ways. First, by offering recycling as a replacement to landfilling. Second, by offering an alternative to High Temperature Metal Recovery (HTMR) most recyclers use. Instead, we researched technology that offers an environmentally friendly alternative approach to alkaline battery processing with a non-thermal mechanical decomposition.
Mechanical recycling of alkaline batteries yields a higher recycling efficiency rate (RER) than thermal recycling and it is better for the environment, producing virtually no emissions. It breaks an alkaline battery into three end products: steel, zinc and manganese concentrate, and paper and plastic. Each of these three product are then used in other applications. These batteries are 100% recycled.
Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH)
Staying true to our mission, we learned of a better way to process NiMH batteries. Using a proprietary heat treatment, we are able to extract the highest quality nickel feedstock from these batteries. This nickel is desirable to the steel and alloy market and can be used in making stainless steel products.
We have a variety of domestic and international processing partners that go through rigorous audits and reviews ensuring they meet the R2/RIOS™ Standards before becoming a partner and each are reviewed annual.
