Battery Solutions Continued Commitment to R2/RIOS™ Certification

Howell, Mich. – Battery Solutions announces their continued commitment to R2/RIOS™ (Responsible Recycling and Recycling Industry Operation Standards™). Battery Solutions successfully completed their first audit since their certification with no major or minor nonconformance.

The company was the first battery recycler to receive the R2:2013 Standard, in early September 2014. The R2/RIOS™ certification is valid for three years but in order to remain in good standing, a surveillance audit must be completed annually.

The certification body (CB) commented on the cleanliness of both the Michigan and Arizona facilities, especially with the constant activity, given high volumes of batteries, and how Battery Solutions “lived” the system.

“It is a validation that our operation and processes are industry leading which was highlighted by the CB,” said Thomas Bjarnemark, Battery Solutions CEO. “Our main driver for achieving the R2:2013 Standard/RIOS™ remains the same: it is very important to our clients because this gives a framework to track the entire chain-ofcustody of spent batteries downstream with more transparency than the battery recycling industry has ever seen in the past.”

Battery Solutions decided to become an industry leader and challenge other organizations that may be circumventing the high environmental standards for shortsighted economic reasons. They are committed to creating a new Battery Solutions – a culture of constant improvement, both internally, and with their partners, to guarantee the delivery of exceptional performance to their employees, clients, business partners, and shareholders.

The R2 “Responsible Recycling” Standard was developed after recognizing a need for an all-inclusive certification program that addressed the operational and environmental challenges in the electronics recycling industry. The Recycling Industry Operation Standard™ (RIOS™) is the recycling industry’s standard for the quality, environmental, and health and safety (QEH&S) management systems.

About the R2 Standard and SERI

Sustainable Electronics Recycling International (SERI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the safe and sustainable reuse and recycling of used electronics around the world through transparent and consensus-driven programs.

SERI is the housing body for the R2 Standard for Responsible Recycling, and also works to engage and educate stakeholders on electronics recycling issues. The R2 Standard was created in 2008 through a multi-stakeholder process that included the U.S. EPA, electronics manufacturers, recycling companies, non-profit organizations, and other groups. Electronics recycling and refurbishment facilities certified to the R2 Standard adhere to best practices in worker health and safety, environmental protection, chain-of-custody reporting, data security, and other areas. UPDATED 7/1/20 – We are OPEN

As circumstances continue to shift, we want to keep you updated on our operation status. An increasing number of states are enacting protections like Michigan’s Stay Home, Stay Safe executive order, limiting operations for non-essential business and shifting many to work from home. As a critical supporter of waste collection, we support essential operations and contribute to the raw minerals supply chain. No matter your battery recycling needs, we are here to help in these unprecedented times. All online orders are being processed as normal but may see delayed shipping times due to the current demand on delivery service providers.

Both our Michigan and Arizona locations continue to operate sending collection solutions, as well as receiving batteries, while observing strict health and safety policies to keep our employees and their families healthy. If you have any questions about the status of your order, please contact our customer service team at or 800.852.8127
